Satyaveer (Abhay Deol) is a junior engineer by profession. He is suspended from work for taking a bribe. He tries getting back to his real passion - writing. His maiden attempt, a detective novel, Manorama, sinks without a trace. He has to settle down with writing for cheap pulp magazines. Adding to his frustration, he has a nagging wife Nimmi (Gul Panag) and an overactive son at home. At this juncture, Manorama (Sarika) comes into his life and introduces herself as the wife of an influential local politician, irrigation minister P. P. Rathore (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). She comes up with a lucrative offer by making him an advance payment for spying on her husband, whom she suspects of having extra-marital affairs. Charmed by this offer where he gets an opportunity to redeem himself, he accepts her assignment. He manages to get pictures of the minister with one girl and gives them to Manorama. One night when Satyaveer is returning home heavily drunk he is intercepted by Manorama, who tells him that some guys want to kill her and tells him to remember that her name is Manorama and her age is 32 years. The next day the local newspaper report that Manorama got killed under mysterious circumstances in an accident. Sensing someone's wrong-doing, he begins investigating her death. The plot gets twisted when Satyaveer discovers that Manorama is not who she claims herself to be. As the detective goes deeper into the issue, it comes out that everyone has some motive. The rest of the plot is how Satyaveer comes to know the truth behind the mystery.
